Tax Rebate amount and New Televisions?

Why is the proposed tax rebate $1,600 per couple? How did they come up with that number. If you look at the Best Buy advertisements, the rebate appears to be the perfect amount to purchase a new HDTV.

Coincidence? I think not.

    Interesting point, but the $1600 is for married couples. Single people only get $800, which isn't really enough for such a TV.

    If the wife is agreeable though, this definitely could be the case for many...
